Congratulations to the July 2024 Business of the Month; Whyalla Veterinary Clinic… and special thanks to Amy Jackson

Whyalla Veterinary Clinic is synonymous with pet owners in Whyalla and the surrounding area as a one stop professional clinic. Being established in 1998 by Dr Andrew Melville-Smith, the clinic has built a reputation for providing everything you need for pet ownership. Dr Melville-Smith himself having been awarded the International Fund for Animal Welfare through his overwhelming commitment to animal welfare.

The clinic provides services over 7 days a week from 8am to 6pm throughout Monday to Friday and 9 till 5 on weekends as well as an after-hours emergency provision if required. To add to the Veterinarian services there’s a fortnightly visiting specialist, grooming, dog training, dental, microchipping and worming to touch on just a few. The clinic also prides itself in a rehoming program which has extended for over a decade now and adopted out hundreds of pets to new owners.

And now, lets talk about the team. The clinic employs over 25 different people and all with a happy and family vibrance that you’ll encounter walking through the door. I spoke with the lovely Lena Benn; the Practice Manager who’s spent twenty-five years of dedication to the business and is still very much a part of the front friendly experience. They all have their own certified training in different areas and are passionate about all animals.

Another highlight to the business is the ‘Loaded Dog’. A sculpture commissioned by Dr Melville-Smith to world renowned artist Andy Scott and hand made in Glasgow, Scotland. It was unveiled in 2008 and has become a tourist feature of its own and definitely worth a visit. And just one more thing, as Dr Melville-Smith is an advocate for climate change, all the clinic vehicles are electric and backed up by onsite electrical chargers that are also available to the public.
