Very itchy ferret who was scratching all the time.
This poor little ferret has been scratching himself to pieces because he is so itchy. A skin scrape was taken and he was found to have a severe case of Sarcoptic Mange (Scabies). Seen below.
His feet were very crusty, inflammed and sore. As you can see, he has been scratching all over. Scabies is zoonotic, which means that can spread to the owner, so it is important to make sure you wash your hands after handling pets. In humans the disease produces small red crusty areas that are very itchy.
He was treated for mites and made a full recovery.
